Australia Day Long Weekend Ride
Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. Observed annually on 26 January, it marks the
anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet at Port Jackson in New South Wales. It is the day to
reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemporary Australia and to acknowledge
our history, our diversity and achievements. On Australia Day we celebrate all the things we love
about Australia: land, sense of fair go, lifestyle, democracy, the freedoms we enjoy but particularly
Firstly, we meet at the McGraths Hill McDonalds Restaurant for an early start after which we
proceed onwards to Young. The route taken is basically up Bells Line of Road to Bell, onto the Darling
Causeway to Mt.Victoria, then along the Great Western Highway to Bathurst. Then we take the Mid
Western Highway to Cowra and finally the Olympic Highway to Young.
This route offers a treasure chest of great country back roads with amazing scenery with the added
bonus of encountering very little traffic along the way. We eventually stop at Young for 2 nights
where we will firstly enjoy a traditional HOG carpark party and eventually some more country
touring on prime bikiferous roads (yeah, that’s a word I just invented for fantastic motorcycle roads).
